Terror Alert Status: Terror Alert Level

Stop and think about it for a econd or two

It wasn't "liberals" who thought that arming radical Muslims in Afghanistan was a good idea, it wasn't "liberals" who thought that giving arms and diplomatic backing to Saddam Hussein was a good idea, and it wasn't "liberals" who thought that overthrowing the democratically elected leader of Iran and replacing him with the Dictator Shah was a bright thing to do either

ZizkaM points out, in some detail, a point i bring up when arguing these things among people i know with whom this sort of stuff comes up as a topic of debate. Swap the names of the religions they advocate and wish to rule in the name of, and you have few, if any real differences between groups like the Taliban and right-wing "christian" conservative Republicans.

Case in point:

  • American right-wing nutballs are highly anti-gay, ... the "Islamofascists," as the rightwing nutballs like to call them, are too

  • American right-wingers are strongly against abortion and strongly pro-capital punishment...so are militant Muslim fundamentalists

  • American fundamentalists are obsessed with "the promotion of virtue and the prevention of vice" (Hence things like the Meese commission, and the recent FCC obsession with Janet Jackson's tit and their concept of "decency")...Muslim fundametalists create government ministries specifically named "The ministry for the promotion of virtue and the prevention of vice"

  • American right-wing zealots have no compunction about committing terrorist acts to acheive their goals (Eric Robert Rudolph, Tim McVeigh, and that dumbassed Krar character who got busted by accident down in Noonday, Texas last spring)...Islamic fundamentalist zealots have no compuntion about committing terrorist acts to acheive their goals (9/11, etc)

  • American right-wing zealots are certain that they are doing the "will of God"...Islamic zealots are certain that they are doing the "will of God"

Islamic Zealots believe that all of the nations should be compelled, by force, if neccessary, to be governed by the strictest, most literal interpretations of (selectively used) Shariya-Islamic Law...American Christian Zealots believe that all of the nations should be compelled, by force if necessary, to be governed by some strict interpretation of (selectively used) Biblical laws

  • both believe a woman's role is in the home, to be submissive to her husband and that she should have no real rights above that of common chattel

somebody remind me...who are we supposed to be fighting again?

the more i look at it, the more it seems that we are being told that this is our sole option:

in order to protect our freedom from the deranged fanatics who would seek to shove their religion and their religious government down our throats, we must surrender our freedom to the deranged fanatics who would seek to shove their religion and their religious government down our throats

    example:John Ashcroft = Mullah Omar

have a good weekend, people, see you monday

    Hmmmm...

I guess i wasn't too terribly far of the mark when i referred to the fine bunch of GOP lapdogs at Sinclair Broadcast Group as WHORES

    imagine that

More proof that Michael "Media Consolidation is Gooood" Powell is a colossal fuckwit.

    Good morning.

    Yeeeeargh!

    For openers

    OOOOooooo....This one's gonna leave a mark.

Thanks to Atrios for the link

    How's this for Scary?

Paul Bremer, the same guy who is trying to redefine the lower limits of the word "Competency" in his role as the CPA in Iraq, had a psychic moment back in March of 2001, when he Warned that the Bush mis-Administration was not concerned enough about the threat of terrorism and would probably not take any steps until after something serious had happened.

Sure as shit, something serious happened, but before it happened, Chimpy was too busy taking lots and lots of Vacation time and John Ashcroft's obsession with the statues of Lady Justice made sure that he himself is the the most prominently exposed boob that one can easily find hanging around at USDOJ

What i wanna know now, is this: Is sheer partisanship the reason that Bremer went from being someone who understands the problem to becoming part of the problem?

Fucking idiots wonder, after shit like that, why the rest of the world seems to hate us.

I know he's sitting on Cheney's lap, but...

At any point during his unrecorded "visit" with the 9/11 Investigative Commission will Karl Rove be throwing his voice so that Dick "The Dick" Cheney and his "other priorities" can take a drink of water while working Dubya's strings?

    just asking

Remind me again why anyone thought that this was a good idea...

Besides undertaking the colossal clusterfuck that has been the post-war occupation of Iraq and the various and sundry under-the-table deals that have made "Dick" Cheney's pals even wealthier than before, why is it that instead of being staffed by competent diplomats, the CPA is staffed by RNC plants who have managed to pour gasoline on just about every fire that they have come into contact with?

    Again, just asking.

I think that's all for me for today

    Thursday, Apr. 29, 2004 - 2:30 pm

    Dave Niewert swings...

...and hits it straight outta the goddamn park

    Or shall we call it...

But, in a manly sort of way, heh-heh

General JC Christian's Republican Jesus gives me a stiffy.

    Cheap Bastards

Nice op-ed piece at the Baltimore chronicle about how the Republican lapdog whores over at Sinclair Broadcast Group have refused to run tomorrow night's NIGHTLINE where Ted Koppel will basically spend the duration of the show listing our casualties of war.

I was going to follow Atrios' advice and call them, but i can't bring myself to be polite just now.

    Howdy.

I've started this blog so that freepers and wingnuts won't glean too much personal information from my other diary and get any bright ideas about fucking with me in person... i'd hate to have to clean any of their blood off of my walls if they came a-trespassin', if you know what i mean.

Now the prophecy hass been fulfilled....THE CRAP-TURE IS UPON US!!! (cue ominous, epic sounding music)

    Here we go...

Let me repeat my last question (written elsewhere)

So, George, you flight-suit wearing, semi-literate knob, have they brought it on to your satisfaction yet?

    Bastard.

    On THAT note...

    Hesiod has a good one.

    Bob Woodward is on tonight

    I know i'm gonna watch
